LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Home & Community Support Services Grey-Bruce (HCSS) recognizes and respects the ancestral and ongoing relationships that Indigenous peoples have with the land on which we operate. Our organization is located on the traditional territory of the Anishinabek Nation, including the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Pottawatomie Nations, collectively known as the People of the Three Fires. We honor and give thanks to the Chippewas of Saugeen and the Chippewas of Neyaashiinigmiing (Nawash), now part of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, as the traditional stewards of this land. We also acknowledge the traditional homeland of the Metis Nation.
HCSS values the opportunity to benefit from and care for the land and is committed to enhancing our relationship with Indigenous communities. We are dedicated to truth and reconciliation and strive to build a future grounded in mutual respect and understanding.
Our commitment includes providing our staff with training in intercultural competency, conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism. We also focus on educating our team about the history and legacy of Indigenous peoples, including the impact of residential schools, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Treaties and Aboriginal rights, Indigenous law, and Aboriginal–Crown relations.
